This version worked on a Win 7 Home Premium Upgrade

The install was not smooth and I had to use the windows update from Microsoft. This was done mid July 2022. After the update I received an error message that the update was unsuccessful. I'm suspecting that this was due to my OS not being up to date and the OS reverted back to Win 7 Home Premium. On the second try at the update, when the system tried to restart I did a computer power down with the power supply switch after Win 7 Pro was installed to interrupt the reboot. I repeated this about 4 times waiting about 45 seconds in between. On the fifth power up at the Opening Splash screen the Windows 7 Pro title appeared and the system booted into Win 7 Pro. I let it run for about 2 weeks then shut the system down with the Start Button. The next power up was normal and it's been running smoothly ever since. I don't exactly know what made it work but I've had no problems with the upgrade since. On the System Window under the Windows Activation Section I entered the included SW Key and activated the license. Now I can see the full 32 GBs of System RAM installed. To me, it was worth the effort.
Must-have essential software for a computer. Get it while it's cheap!

You WILL need separate malware protection if you use it online. Rock-solid stable, like XP was, and a logical extension of 95,98SE,XP. You don't have to relearn much, just familiarize yourself with the new, and mostly kick-ax features (such as libraries).
Don't bother with Win-8, it's a fancy cell-phone interface, unwieldy and unsuitable for a pc, even if you have a touch-screen monitor.
As inferred above, every other edition of Windows has been a quantum-leap winner, but the "in-betweeners" were dogs! That was 98, Me, and Vista, they were unstable, glitchy, and irritating. And now, Windows-8, another dog.
Yeah, there IS an alternative, Linux. Power to the people, much of the freedom of information lies in open-source software, the nexus of open source is Linux, and similar kudos. Of the people, by the people, and for the people. Sterling reputation, both of the OS and every contributor. If you're not familiar, google "distros of Linux". The best part: any and all flavors of Linux are FREE, in every sense of the word, for the most part.
The catch with Ubuntu, Debian, Knoppix and other Linux variations? Yeah, there's always a catch! It's that the learning curve is pretty steep. This is NOT a free Windows, far from it. If you are young and/or flexible of mind, go for it! You'll be glad you did. But if you are already familiar with Windows, go with what you know.
There is also Apple’s Mac. Since I don’t know anything about them, except that the hardware AND software are only for each other and strictly proprietary, I won’t go further, except to say that their owners love them.
As of now (Oct '14), you can still get great deals on Windows-7, especially on ebay. I just bought a refurbished pc with Windows Vista for a friend, and the first thing I'll do is upgrade it to Win-7. It's the standard for business use in the US, practically ubiquitous. I prefer Pro, with the extensive accessibilities to Win-XP programs, but any level is good, depending on your needs.
Microsoft doesn't sell Win-7 anymore, they are too busy hawking Win-8. Don't waste your money, get Windows-7. It's even a serious consideration to downgrade from Win-8 to Win-7, in my opinion. Win-7 has extended support through 2020, and I suspect that may be extended further unless they can hit it out of the park (again) with Win-9. That seems unlikely to me, based on Win-8, unless Microsoft can regain their focus or diversify appropriately.

I had to upgrade my video card to work with Win 7, but in the long run win 7 seem to be a faster system then Xp. It's a shame I'll have to upgrade to WIN 10 befor July 29th for 5 more PC's.
Have a Good Day,
Bill

The original computer was failing and a replacement was found. Unfortunately, it had Windows 7 Home Edition. It was extremely good fortune to find a 32-bit upgrade. As expected, the internet Explorer version was WAY out of date and a download of the needed updates had to be downloaded from another computer and then transferred to the replacement unit. The owner must purchase new software in January that is Windows 10 Pro compatible. The replacement was sorely needed to complete this year's transactions and to archive the past 15 years of CRM data.
This software was a life saver!
